What youcan do in The Learning Lab

About the charity

Our goals

We exist to help young people find their spark for science and entrepreneurship, showing them that it’s done by people just by them.

By putting young people in the heart of working science labs, surrounded by scientists of all ages, genders and backgrounds, we work to:

  1. Demystify scientific careers
  2. Diversify the faces of science
  3. Empower confident problem solvers

Our solution

Our charity offers schools and home-ed groups:

  • Curriculum-linked STEM workshops at The Learning Lab
  • Behind-the-scenes tours of working science labs at Science Creates
  • Opportunities to have conversations with real scientists and engineers

Our story

Outreach has always been an important part of the Science Creates story. In 2017, realising the importance of showing young people where real, groundbreaking science takes place, we began a series of one-off ‘school days’ that quickly led to a regular outreach programme — and then to the launch of an independent charity.

The demand and impact of this outreach was so evident that we designed The Learning Lab, a dedicated STEM learning space for outreach at our Old Market incubator.

Donate

  • £100 donationCovers the cost of materials for approximately four STEM workshops.
  • £500 donationFunds STEM workshops in The Learning Lab for up to 100 children, giving them hands-on science experiences.
  • £1000 donationEnables the development of a brand-new STEM workshop on a topical or emerging area of science.

The power of your donations

A better tomorrow starts with unbounded curiosity and is fuelled by the courage to challenge, explore and discover.

Your donations unlock life-changing experiences for young people by funding educational visits to The Learning Lab and expanding the reach and quality of our programmes.

Every donation, however big or small, helps open doors to STEM careers, building a new generation of empowered founders and scientists driven by bold ideas and diverse perspectives.

Corporate visits

Corporate away days

Join us at The Lab for a unique team building activity — participate in interactive science workshops, tour the research spaces at our Old Market incubator and get to know the work of our charity.

Complete your day out by adding a fully catered lunch to your booking, or stay into the evening by hiring our bar for drinks with your team.

Venue hire

The Learning Lab is also available for hire as an out-of-the-ordinary meeting space with flexible layout for your own team activities.

Ways to support

Become a corporate supporter

Corporate donations provide the stable foundation our charity needs to maximise impact through long-term initiatives.

Make a donation

Curiosity is universal. Access to STEM opportunities is not. Individual donations — regular or one-offs — are crucial to ignite the spark of discovery in more young minds.

Testimonials

“I firmly believe that single events can change lives and that Science Creates Outreach has the power to cause these. Among the young people visiting there will perhaps be hundreds over the years who will be inspired to become scientists. By visiting The Learning Lab and seeing scientists, students discover the special atmosphere and reward that practical science offers.”

Dr John Manley

"All of the scientists who deliver workshops are enthusiastic and inspiring, and they interact well with the learners. I’m looking forward to the upcoming workshops in our second collaboration with the charity."

Jo Sweetland

"I loved visiting and doing fun experiments with my class. When I grow up I want to be a scientist and rent one of the labs here one day so that I can start my own invention company, just like the ladies at Science Creates!"
