Deep Tech teams tend to get built from people the founders already know. But that will only take them so far.

The first hire outside that circle is usually the hard one: a commercial lead into a technical business, or a specialist role with a title that barely exists anywhere else.

​Most of the difficulty shows up before anyone starts looking. The role gets defined by a title borrowed from a bigger company — and the advert, the interviews and the decision all inherit the confusion.

Join our first Deep Tech Training Session this Autumn, on Hiring & Team Decisions in Deep Tech with Alan Furley from ISL Talent  — a free event open to Science Creates' members and external registrations.

This is a practical, interactive session for founders about to hire, about to raise, or working out what the team needs to look like over the next year. You'll spend most of it working on your own business rather than listening to someone present.

​You'll leave with a one-page plan including: the capabilities your business needs over the next 12 months, how each one might realistically get solved, and your next significant hire defined properly. Continue networking with the Deep Tech community of the South West at our Deep Tech Mixer downstairs at Bar 1023.

​The session will be led by Alan Furley of ISL Talent, one of Science Creates' talent partners. Alan has spent 15 years running his own business and hiring into venture-backed Deep Tech, climate and health companies across the South West and the UK.

Science Creates Old Market, Bristol. ​The venue is a 10-minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads train station and close to local bus routes on Old Market Street and Temple Way.

​Please note that parking is not available on site. The nearest pay and display car park is opposite the venue at Gardiner Haskins.

• ​What you'll do differently, and where to get further help
