Epinal is revolutionising the detection and prevention of narcotic-impaired behaviour for safer roads, flights and workplaces. Utilising AI and novel biotechnology that mimics natural sensory mechanisms, it’s developing a handheld breathalyser that generates rapid results with extreme sensitivity and selectivity.

John worked with the US-based company Epinal Inc to set up the UK subsidiary Epinal Ltd in 2020. Prior to this, John earned 20 years’ experience at Hewlett Packard Labs working on future user interfaces, leaving as a Master Research Engineer to co-found his first startup, Folium Optics, which successfully sold part of its IP portfolio in 2019. Alongside his CTO and COO roles in both Folium Optics and Epinal, John also co-founded and is CTO for Iremia Technology, developing sustainable electronics and personal wellbeing products.

Mike is an experienced CEO and innovator with a degree in Electrical Sciences from Cambridge University. In 2000, he founded his first hi-tech company, Synad Technologies, which was successfully sold in 2003. Then, in 2008, he founded his second company, Xsilon, developing a novel powerline communications technology. This was followed by Mike co-founding a third company in 2018 developing novel breath sensors, which then inspired the idea for Epinal Ltd.
